Title: Functional data analysis with applications to fetal and child growth

Functional data analysis has become popular for longitudinal data studies. In this talk, we describe functional data analysis using penalized splines and then introduce two applications. In the first application, we consider the optimal design for scheduling ultrasound during pregnancy and propose a prediction-based joint design for sampling functional data.

In the second application, we consider meta analysis of child growth correlation in early childhood using data from multiple studies. Such a growth correlation can be used to monitor child growth. These works are funded by the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
